Transit OS: Making Public Transport Safe & Predictable
🚨 Problem
Public transport in India (and many emerging economies) is inefficient, unsafe, and unpredictable. Millions of passengers face daily uncertainty and risk:
- Passengers don't know if the next bus is full, safe, or running late
- No live visibility for government operators or private fleets
- Safety is a huge concern — especially for women and kids
- Crowding leads to loss of time, frustration, and even accidents

💡 What We Built in 12 Hours
A complete hardware-software solution for real-time transit monitoring:
- Real-time occupancy detection using Raspberry Pi + camera + YOLOv5n
- Occupancy % is sent to a backend server
- Data appears live on a mobile app (for users) and admin dashboard (for officials)
- GPS integration for route tracking
- I2C LCD shows live occupancy on the bus
- Designed a 3D printable, compact Pi enclosure with ventilation, USB cutouts, and camera slot
